may be continued during a period of six months from the said commencement, and for the purpose of such proceedings the jurisdiction of such Jourt, and the operation outside the reserved areas of the relevant provisions of the orders, Rules and Regulations mentioned in Article 2 of this order, shall continue during the said period.

4. (1) Notwithstanding the other provisions of this order, the existing jurisdiction of the Supreme Court shall continue in all matters of personal status where only British subjects, as defired in Article 3 of the .ins order in Council,192 are concerned, whether arising in the reserved areas or in any other part of China (including the consular district of Kashgar), and such jurisdiction shall continue to be exercised in accordance with such provisions of the

Principal order, and of any Rules or Regulations made thero- under, and of any other order in Council in force, as may be applicable;

Provided that in any such matter, which if it had arisen before the commencement of this order would have been dealt

with under the China (Kashgar) order in Council,1920, tho Court shall, at the request of any of the parties, apply the law which would have been applied under the said order in

Council.

(2) For the purposes of this article, the term "matters of personal status" shall include all questions relating to marriage, conjugal rights, divorce, judicial separation, dower, paternity, affiliation, adoption, capacity, majority, guardianship, trusteeship and interdiction, and all matters relating to succession whether by will or on intestacy,
